About Sweetport Feeds
It Started With One Pot of Gumbo
In the winter of 2019, Pastor James Tureaud noticed a group of men sleeping under the Main Street overpass. He went home, cooked a pot of gumbo, and brought it back. That was the first Sweetport Feeds meal.
Word spread. Neighbors started showing up with food. Churches donated supplies. A movement was born — not from a grant or a nonprofit board, but from a single act of showing up.
Today, Sweetport Feeds runs weekly outreach events, coordinates over 340 volunteers, and has served more than 12,000 meals to our community. We are entirely volunteer-run, community-funded, and Sweetport-proud.

Our Core Values
Dignity First
Every person we serve is treated with full dignity and respect. No one is a charity case — they are our neighbors.
Community-Rooted
We are from Sweetport. We live here, worship here, and are invested in this community for the long haul.
Direct Impact
100% of food and supply donations go directly to outreach. No bureaucracy, no waste.
Radical Presence
We don't wait for people to find us. We go to them — on the streets, under bridges, in the parks.
"To feed, serve, and restore dignity to every person experiencing homelessness in Sweetport, Louisiana — through consistent outreach, community partnership, and radical compassion."
"A Sweetport where every neighbor has access to food, warmth, and community — where no one sleeps hungry and no one is forgotten."
